Abstract

An inguinal hernia is a common cause of pediatric emergency department visit, but hernia containing the uterus and uterine adnexa is unusual. We report a rare case of inguinal hernia consisting of the whole uterus, bilateral ovaries and fallopian tubes in a 2-month-old full-term female infant, who presented to the pediatric emergency department with asymmetric labia majora and an irreducible inguinal mass. Ultrasonography was performed immediately, and urgent surgical repair was successfully performed without any complications. Rapid and accurate diagnosis using ultrasonography should be considered to evaluate the involvement of reproductive organs especially in a female infant who presents with an irreducible inguinal mass accompanied by asymmetric labia majora.
